Funny Soldier
Posted on May 17th, 2005 1 commentI found this in an old (12/8/2003) US News & World Report a while back. I think I’ve looked at it about 50 times and laugh every time. I just love Jenkins’ facial expression here (upper left).
Do you think it’s posed? I would love to learn more about this photo. Does anyone know anything about it?
Here’s what I know:
- The soldier’s last name is most likely, “Jenkins” from the Army’s 1st Armored Division
- It was published in US News & World Report on December 12, 2003
You can read the article which accompanied this photo in the US News archives.

Here’s a list for ya.
Posted on April 24th, 2005 2 commentsPart of the reason I haven’t spent much time developing the new SoulSoap site:
- I don’t have a really good definition for the word/concept of SoulSoap.
- I have hardly any time to work on it.
- I write code all day at work. Sometimes I just don’t want to sit down and write some more.
- I’m not a good designer. I’m pretty sure that the next one will be from some type of open-source design farm… that’s farm, not firm.
- I have difficulty writing content.
- You haven’t been hassling me enough. I respond well to nagging.
- Flickr is a better place for pictures than a home-grown picture database. (I’ll probably still just redesign my picture pages to link to my Flickr pages
- Nobody really visits anyway.

First Post, Try Two
Posted on December 6th, 2004 No commentsIt’s time for me to put the computer away and read something non-digital. If someone were to ask me what I was reading right now, I could only tell them, nothing. Embarrasingly, I spend more time reading stranger’s blogs than I do reading a good, old fasioned book. There are so many books I want to read right now. Here’s a short list:
- Tender Warrior, by Stu Webber
- The Great Divorce, by C.S. Lewis
- The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen R. Covey
There are also plenty of books I have started to read, but never finished.
- The Bible
- The Power of a Praying Husband, by Stormie Omaritan
- Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, by Robert M. Pirsig
- Moby Dick, by Herman Melville
I like lists. A good friend of mine, Liz Huges recently posted a pretty humorous list on her blog wich gave me the motivation to write these. Hers is much more entertaining.
Okay, now I’m really going to start reading something… Romans.

Be Still
Posted on May 19th, 2004 2 commentsPsalm 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earthNicole and I are in a bible study group with my boss, Jim Fleming and a number of other (older) couples from our new church, Countryside Covenant in Sherwood, OR. We are going through a six-week discussion through a “Doing Life Together workbook. The above verse is this week’s memory assignment.
I have always wanted to commit to memorizing bible verses. Shamefully, I currently know very few, but last week I memorized Luke 10:41-42:
“Martha, Martha the Lord Answered, “You are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better and it will not be taken from her.Anyway,…
I have always had difficulty being still. My mind races, my body twitches, I have lots to do. Sometimes, I feel like I will never be caught up. Often, I’m a stress case.
The Idea of being still and meditating on Him appeals to me. I have really enjoyed the times when I forced myself to just sit and relax. I take deep breaths, ask the Holy Spirit to envelop me “Like a cloud and relaxingly listen – Listen for what God may have for me. I thrive on it – it’s one of the best things a stress case can do.
